The power of literature

The eight volumes of the "Highland Saga" by Diana Gabaldon have led me to fall in love with a country I have never seen before. The landscape, the culture and the people are so beautifully described in the first volume that I would have liked to have exchanged with the protagonist. 200 years ago, she traveled back in time and survived many adventures in 18th-century Scotland. That she also found love is not completely irrelevant.

Of course, time travel isn´t possible due to physical laws, but I was able to travel to Scotland in the 21st century. I have learned a lot about this country, its history and its people. All because I like this book so much. Scotland is rough and boisterous. It is original and natural. People are proud, traditional and superstitious, in spite of or just because they have not been made easy in the past to be Scottish.

Scotland is rough and boisterous. It is original and natural. People are proud, traditional and superstitious, in spite of or just because they have not been made easy in the past to be Scottish. In almost every century there were fights  on Scottish ground. They were plundered, expelled and murdered. A circumstance that kept the country bitterly poor and suppressed the development of an urban life of crafts and trade. Many stories and myths you learn only by reading. I developed a love  for a country, which I would like to see again and again and again and again.

If the stories in the on my way Magazine are not enough for you to fall in love with this country, then you can also buy the books of the Highland Saga by Diana Gabaldon here.* it's really worth it.
